The Sacramento Police Department provides downloadable Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) data extracts. A CAD system is a highly specialized system that uses telecommunications and geographic display to support police dispatch and response functions. The police department's CAD System provides mission critical mapping capabilities for the 911 call center. The files available below represent annual calls for service received by the Sacramento Police Department, starting in 2005.

Notes about the CAD data:

All calls for service are included in the data with a few exceptions. Calls are removed entirely from the data if they are deemed to be of an extremely sensitive nature. Internal administrative calls are removed as well (i.e., phone messages). Similarly, any calls that originally included confidential information, such as with child abuse, spousal abuse, and sex crimes, have had the confidential information blanked out.
The "Priority" field indicates a call's priority based on the nature of the information received at the time it was dispatched. The lower the priority number, the more urgent the call.
Not all calls require the response of a police officer. In an "All Units Broadcast" call, for example, the dispatcher notifies officers of the information in the call, but usually will not send units to respond.
CAD data does not necessarily equate with criminal activity. Throughout the day, officers respond to calls which don't meet the criteria of a crime report. This can include disturbance calls, keep-the-peace calls, subject stops and ringing alarm calls. Some calls which would indicate a specific crime, petty theft for example, could be cleared without a crime report if the responding officer determines the circumstances don't meet the crime's criteria. When the letters "UI" are present in the District, Beat, or Grid fields, that indicates the call originated outside of city limits.
